THE BACKBONE OF
ACADEMIC PRIVACY.
The performance of a free VPN is only as robust as the silicon and fiber supporting it. At FreeVPN.edu.pl, we have moved away from the standard commercial "virtual server" model. Instead, we utilize high-performance, physical hardware co-located in strategic Tier-3 data centers across the globe. Our network is engineered specifically to handle the heavy throughput required by modern developers and researchers.
Why Our 10Gbps Nodes Matter
Most "free" providers throttle users to 10Mbps or 100Mbps to conserve costs. Because our project is supported by European Union grants and public academic funding, we provide unthrottled access to our 10Gbps backbone. This is essential for:
- Low-Latency Coding: Real-time collaboration on GitHub or GitLab without the "lag" typical of free services.
- Large Dataset Transfers: Moving gigabytes of research data across continents with WireGuard's efficient multi-threading.
- High-Definition Streaming: Academic resources and video lectures streamed in native 4K without buffering.
WireGuard® Optimization
We have optimized our Linux kernels for the WireGuard protocol, enabling state-of-the-art cryptography (ChaCha20) that is significantly faster than the legacy OpenVPN protocol. By reducing the overhead on our CPU cores, we can maintain higher speeds for more simultaneous users, ensuring that even during peak European study hours, your connection remains stable.
